Trick of the Day - Things to memorize

Post by Ani on Wed Mar 11, 2009 3:26 pm

This website contains a ton of tricks:
math-magic.com

Today's trick is not a trick, but a list of facts that one must memorize to improve one's score:

1. 67*67 = 4489
667*667 = 444889
6667*6667 = 44448889
and so on...

2. 1*9 + 2 = 11
12*9 + 3 = 111
123 * 9 + 4 = 1111
and so on...

3. 1*8 + 1 = 9
12*8 + 2 = 98
123*8 + 3 = 987
and so on...

Any more anyone can think of?

squares
cubes
Factorials

As well as some things to remember--

(x)^2 + (3x)^2
is the same thing as 10 * (x)^2
some people dont know this, so just throwing it out there.

Coach Boyd taught (at least while I was there) to memorize squares up to 40 and cubes up to 25.

(I was lazy and did it in JavaScript. If anyone wants to post HTML or JavaScript, just let me know - only admins can).
