Hello Guys,

With UIL District coming up, we need to step up the practice to beat Dulles. If we do that, there is a good chance we'll break out as wildcard. As a visual aid of where we stand, I have made a graph of our team scores and the induviduals in those teams, so we have a good idea of where we are, and where Dulles is.

(In progress, only Number Sense done)

Ind. Composition:

Approx.

1. Elkins-215, 207, 183, 155

    Dulles-319, 172, 152, 104

2. Elkins-241, 199, 176, 148

Trick Of The Day (Alex) - Infinite Sequences

Ok, it's time for my shot at the trick of the day.

NOTE: This only works on geometric sequences (same multiplication factor throughout)

Infinite sequences... pretty simple really.

The formula goes like this. (first term of the sequence) / (1 - (multiplication factor))

Examples:

1.

3, 1.5, .75 ...

You need to multiply by 1/2 to get the next term, so the formula looks something like this.

3 / (1 - .5)

3 / .5

Answer : 6

I'll show a couple more examples... ...

I could make a separate forum to post them in, with different categories...

If someone could run a server, I could even make a java program tailored to display them.

Trick of the Day - Things to memorize

This website contains a ton of tricks:

math-magic.com

Today's trick is not a trick, but a list of facts that one must memorize to improve one's score:

1. 67*67 = 4489

    667*667 = 444889

    6667*6667 = 44448889

    and so on...

2. 1*9 + 2 = 11

    12*9 + 3 = 111

    123 * 9 + 4 = 1111

    and so on...

3. 1*8 + 1 = 9

    12*8 + 2 = 98

    123*8 + 3 = 987

    and so on...

Any more anyone can think of?

Occaisionally, these pop up:

(base 8)77777 + (base 3)2222 + (base 5)444 = ?

Instead of crunching it out in your calculator, you could simply do the following:

realize that 8^3 = 1000 in base 8, soo

                8^3-1 = 777 in base 8 right?

use the above to simplify the problem above to:

                8^5-1 + 3^4-1 + 5^3-1 = an easily solavble problem on your calculator.

                btw, answer is (base 10)32971

Well I'm here to teach you all I know about integrals and derivatives. Please note that I am not in Calculus yet, and I may still have some basic mistakes. Also, I cannot do very many problems.

First off, I'm going to teach the derivative.
